Outreach Programs

Busby Street Outreach Van

One of the several essential services that we offer includes the mobile outreach van.
The Busby Street Outreach program provides a mobile and accessible link for people who are living in poverty or homeless, to resources and support in the Barrie area. Our Community Outreach Workers connect with individuals and offer basic needs supplies, brief crisis counseling, advocacy and referrals to community services, harm reduction supplies, clothing and blankets.

The “Van” sees up to 50 people on an average night. In 2013, there were over 6900 visits to the van. This number has consistently increased over the last few years. We would like to extend our operation to include outlying areas where low-income families reside but are unable to make the trip in to Barrie.

Central Intake

During the winter months between November and May, the David Busby Street Centre (DBSC) is responsible for the Central Intake process for all emergency shelter referrals. Central Intake also makes referrals to the volunteer-based organization Barrie Out of the Cold which accommodates over flow from full emergency shelters in Barrie.

Central Intake is facilitated daily from the CMHA building located at 21 Bradford St. between 5:30pm and 8:30pm 7 days a week from mid November through to the end of April.
