Outreach Programs

Mobile Outreach

One of the several essential services that we have been providing is our Mobile Outreach Van. Our community outreach workers connect with homeless clients to develop ongoing relationships, assist with information and provide individual advocacy, resources, referrals, as well as short-term and long-term support to individuals living on the street. Over the years, our mobile services have included counselling, distribution of water, clothing, and medical supplies to as many as one hundred people over a five night period. We would like to extend our operation to include outlying areas where low-income families reside but are unable to make the trip into the downtown area. Another purpose for our mobile unit is to pick up donations that have been so generously provided by the community and local businesses, including fruits and vegetables, bread and meals prepared by churches.

Central Intake for Barrie Out of the Cold - (BOOTC)
During the winter months between November and May, the David Busby Street Centre (DBSC) is responsible for the Central Intake process for all emergency shelter referrals.  The Central Intake program is accessible through the DBSC Outreach  Van during 5:30pm and 9:30pm.  Central Intake also makes referrals to the volunteer-based organization, Barrie Out Of The Cold which accommodates over flow from full, emergency shelters in Barrie.
